So, like, there’s this new documentary coming out on Netflix that’s all about the big decision to give Kimi Antonelli a seat at Mercedes. It’s called ‘The Seat’ and it’s set to premiere on May 5th, right after the Miami Grand Prix this weekend. The documentary is 45 minutes long and it’s gonna show all the behind-the-scenes stuff that went down as the team was trying to figure out who would replace Lewis Hamilton, who was heading over to Ferrari.
The whole thing was produced in partnership with WhatsApp, who’s a sponsor of Mercedes. They’re gonna show all the private calls and discussions between team principal Toto Wolff and Antonelli as they were getting ready to announce him as the 2025 driver choice. Wolff said that WhatsApp played a huge role in the decision-making process, keeping everything running smoothly and allowing the team to focus on Antonelli’s development.
According to Wolff, choosing Kimi as their driver for 2025 was a really big deal, and WhatsApp helped them out a lot. The team is super pumped to give fans a peek behind the curtain and show them how they came to this major decision. They’re calling it a once-in-a-generation driver change for Mercedes and F1, which is pretty cool.
Antonelli himself is over the moon about the whole thing. He said it’s a dream come true to be driving for Mercedes and that he and the team were in constant contact on WhatsApp throughout the whole process. He can’t wait for everyone to see the documentary and join him on this crazy journey.
This is actually the second film project that Mercedes has done with WhatsApp, the first one was about Hamilton and was called ‘Push, Push’. But this time, ‘The Seat’ is gonna be the first one to debut on Netflix, which is pretty exciting.
So, not really sure why this matters, but Max Verstappen has some nice things to say about Oscar Piastri and his approach to the championship this season. Apparently, Piastri is doing things the right way, according to Verstappen.
In other news, Ryan Preece and Joey Logano got disqualified from the race at Talladega because of some issues with their spoilers. Preece came in second, but that’s all out the window now.
Denny Hamlin is feeling a bit bummed about how things went down at Talladega. He was hoping for a better outcome, but it just didn’t work out for him this time.
Kyle Larson and William Byron had to play second fiddle in the finish at Talladega, which is a bummer. They were just there to help out, not to win.
But Austin Cindric managed to pull off a last-lap pass and snag the win at Talladega, which was pretty exciting. Fans got exactly what they were hoping for in terms of thrills.
Paul Menard also had a good day at Sonoma, leading every lap and taking home the win in the Trans Am Series. Looks like he’s on a roll.
And lastly, Ryan Preece almost had his first Cup Series win at Talladega, but he came up just short. Tough break for him, but that’s racing for you.
So, it looks like there was a lot of action on the track this weekend. Not sure what’s gonna happen next, but it’s always interesting to see how things shake out in the world of racing.
