Last week, there was this dude named Franz Hermann who caused quite a stir during a GT3 test at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Little did everyone know, Franz was actually the four-time Formula 1 champ Max Verstappen in disguise. Yep, you heard that right. Verstappen hopped into a Ferrari 296 GT3 from Emil Frey Racing, all undercover-like, during an official Nurburgring Endurance Series test.
So, why the sneaky move, you ask? Well, our man Max wanted to get some laps on the ‘Green Hell’ without all the crazy fans swarming the pitlane in the wee hours. And guess what? He pulled it off. But here’s the kicker – people totally forgot that Verstappen wasn’t the only one tearing up the track that day. Chris Lulham, a sim racer for Team Redline and Verstappen’s sim racing crew, was also in on the action.
Lulham spilled the beans at the GT World Challenge event in Zandvoort, saying, “We shared the car all day. I was mostly behind the wheel in the arvo – did most of the laps then. It was insane driving around that track for the first time. No amount of sim laps can prep you for the real deal.” Man, that’s a lot of corners to navigate, but hey, they helped each other out and had a productive day. Oh, and the car? Super fast. Like, really fast.
