Trackhouse Aprilia rider Ai Ogura might miss the rest of the British Grand Prix weekend after a nasty crash during the opening day at Silverstone. The Japanese rookie injured his right knee in a fall during FP1 on Friday morning. This forced him to sit out practice in the afternoon as he raced against the clock to recover in time for Saturday’s events.
“I wasn’t going too fast on the second run,” Ogura explained. “I was trying to improve, but I guess the timing and push weren’t quite right, and I ended up crashing. After that, my right knee didn’t feel so good, so we decided to skip practice this afternoon. Hopefully, with some rest overnight, my knee will improve, and I’ll be ready for tomorrow. For now, I’ll just have to wait and see how my body responds. Hopefully, it’ll be better by tomorrow.”
The incident marked Ogura’s sixth fall of the season, including all sessions and races, which is pretty much in line with the MotoGP field average. Despite a strong start to the season with a second-row qualifying in Thailand, things have become more challenging for the young rider. He faced disqualification in Argentina due to a software technicality but has managed to finish every race so far and secure top-10 finishes in three of the last four grands prix. Qualifying has been a struggle for Ogura since the season opener in 2025, with only one appearance in Q2 since then.
Missing practice means Ogura is back to Q1 on Saturday, assuming he is fit to ride at all. It’s a setback for the promising rider as he battles to regain his form and continue his impressive start to the season. The road to recovery won’t be easy, but Ogura remains optimistic about his chances of competing in the upcoming races.
Not really sure why this matters, but it seems like Ogura just can’t catch a break with all these falls. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like he’s due for a stroke of good luck soon. We’ll have to wait and see how things unfold for him in the rest of the British Grand Prix weekend.
